Beyoncé makes Variety’s Women’s Impact List 2013

Variety: It’s not that Beyonce does things that other stars don’t, it’s just that she does them on a level that few of her contemporaries can match, and 2013 has been a banner year in Beyonce exceptionalism. Other stars sign brand endorsement deals for a quick paycheck — Beyonce gets Pepsi to pony up $50 million for a “creative content development fund,” whose purpose seems to be whatever Beyonce wants it to be. When HBO airs a two-hour documentary on her life, she gets to direct it herself. When she goes on a summer stadium tour, it surpasses $50 million in grosses after the first 30 dates. When Beyonce plays the Super Bowl halftime show, she sets Twitter records and the stadium’s power grid goes dark in response. When she gives birth to a daughter with husband, Jay Z, it becomes the hip-hop generation’s “Baby Ricky” moment.

Marie Claire Australia: Beyoncé on ‘talking’ to Blue Ivy during labour

beynovmarieShe gave birth to her daughter Blue Ivy in January of last year. And Beyoncé admits in a new interview that it was the connection she felt to her unborn child that helped her through the pain of labour. ‘We were talking. I know it sounds crazy, but I felt a communication,’ said the 32-year-old in the November issue of Marie Claire Australia.

She also said thinking about what her child was going through helped distract her from the pain of her birth. ‘I felt like when I was having contractions, I envisioned my child pushing through a very heavy door,’ said the singer. ‘And I imagined this tiny infant doing all the work, so I couldn’t think about my own pain.’

She also revealed she started to feel the maternal instinct late in her pregnancy.’I felt very maternal around eight months,’ she said. ‘And I thought I couldn’t become any more until I saw the baby… But it happened during my labor because I had a very strong connection with my child.

Beyoncé showed off her sensational figure in a high-waisted sparkling blue skirt paired with a cropped striped T-shirt on the cover of the fashion magazine. She wore her highlighted hair in voluminous curls and sported a glowing complexion. The singer stared confidently into the camera as she posed with her arms in what appeared to be a dance move.

Beyoncé also opened up about her return to the spotlight after giving birth. ‘I’m still completely nervous,’ she said. ‘I still feel pressure.’ The entertainer admitted that she does read articles about herself, although she makes sure to never read the comments. ‘Don’t scroll down!’ she said. ‘You’re definitely going to get your feelings hurt.’

Vanity Fair: Jay Z on Wooing Beyoncé, and How Blue Ivy Is His “Biggest Fan”.

Shawn Carter, better known as Jay Z, tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Lisa Robinson in the November issue that although his wife, Beyoncé, says that their 18-month-old daughter, Blue Ivy, prefers Jay’s music to hers, he’s not so sure. “That’s not true. She does like her mother’s music—she watches [Beyoncé’s concerts] on the computer every night. But my album came out and I don’t know if Blue ever heard any of my music prior to this album—she’s only 18 months old and I don’t play my music around the house. But this album was new, so we played it. And she loves all the songs. She plays a song and she goes, ‘More, Daddy, more . . . Daddy song.’ She’s my biggest fan. If no one bought the Magna Carta [album], the fact that she loves it so much, it gives me the greatest joy. And that’s not like a cliché. I’m really serious. Just to see her—‘Daddy song, more, Daddy.’ She’s genuine, she’s honest, because she doesn’t know it makes me happy. She just wants to hear it.”

Jay tells Robinson that Barack Obama’s 2008 election “actually renewed my spirit for America. It was like, Oh, wow, man, this whole thing about land of the free, home of the . . . it’s, like, real—it’s going to happen, everyone’s getting to participate in it. But growing up, if you had ever told a black person from the hood you can be president, they’d be like, I could never . . . If you had told me that as a kid, I’d be like, Are you out of your mind? How?”

Jay tells Robinson that his mother knew he was dealing drugs as a teenager, “but we never really had those conversations. We just pretty much ignored it. But she knew. All the mothers knew. It sounds like ‘How could you let your son . . . ’ but I’m telling you, it was normal.” Read the rest of this entry »

Beyoncé plans to make up for lost time after strict dieting while on tour

CURRENTLY touring the world with dates spanning the Americas, Australia and New Zealand until the end of the year, Beyoncé is in no doubt what she misses most while on the road.

“I want to have some ice cream or Krispy Kreme doughnuts! There’s too much good food out there,” says the 32-year-old who puts herself on a strict diet while touring to ensure she retains her trademark bootylicious body.

Yet once the tour comes to an end – in Brooklyn in December – she plans to make up for lost time.

“After the tour, I feel like I’ve earned the right to eat what I want.” Story of our lives, Beyoncé.
